About Money Advice Scotland
Strengthening Scotland’s money advice sector and supporting people to build financial wellbeing, knowledge and confidence.
About Money Advice Scotland
Money Advice Scotland is Scotland’s money charity. We work to strengthen and support the money advice sector through training, resources and professional development; influence policy and practice to improve outcomes for consumers and people in debt; and help people across Scotland build their financial wellbeing, knowledge, and confidence.
Our mission is to be the driving force towards financial wellbeing for the people of Scotland. Our priorities and ambitions for the coming years are set out in our strategic plan.
Helping people in debt
We believe everyone experiencing debt deserves to be treated fairly, with dignity and without stigma.
Debt can happen to anyone, and we understand the impact financial difficulties can have on individuals and families. We work to improve the experience of people in debt and promote fairer policies and practices.
We also provide information and resources to help people understand their options, including guides to debt and money terminology, information about the debt advice process and tools to help with household finances.
If you need help with money or debt, our Find an Advice Agency directory can help you find organisations providing free money and debt advice in your local area.
Our key areas of work
The core workstreams that power our mission and support people across Scotland.
-

Developing money advisers
MATRICS provides training and development for money advisers working in Scotland’s free money advice sector. The programme supports advisers at different stages of their careers, helping them build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to deliver high-quality money and debt advice.
Through MATRICS Learn, advisers can access a blended learning programme aligned with the Scottish National Standards for Information and Advice Providers (SNSIAP). Bite-sized e-learning is combined with facilitated discussion groups and workshops, giving learners the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice through real-life scenarios and shared learning.
-

Influencing policy
We work to be a strong voice for consumers, people in debt and the money advice sector in Scotland.
By working closely with our members and partners, we gather evidence about the issues affecting people and identify emerging areas of consumer harm. We use this evidence to influence social and public policy, improve practice and help create fairer outcomes.
We also ensure the experiences and views of Scotland’s money advisers are represented in discussions with policymakers, government, and other key organisations.
-

Improving financial wellbeing
We believe everyone should have the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their money.
Our Financial Wellbeing Team delivers free, accessible financial education and money guidance across Scotland, working with schools, colleges, workplaces and communities.
Through workshops, resources and learning opportunities, we help people better understand their money, build financial confidence and strengthen their financial resilience.
