We’re delighted to introduce our new CEO, Peter Costello who has joined us this month following a move from River Garden Auchincruive where he was also CEO. Peter joins Money Advice Scotland at a time of significant change for the sector, with plans to further develop the organisation and build on previous success.

In his own words, Peter tells us about his background and his hopes for MAS.

My initial career was in engineering and then IT before taking up my first senior role in 2000 for a local charity. I had initially planned to support that charity for two years with the intention of returning to the private sector. However, it is fair to say that not only did I gain a genuine passion for the third sector, but I discovered that I preferred managing and developing people rather than fighting with computers. Now with over 20 years as a senior executive in the sector I have developed a keen passion for community action and social change, having managed multidisciplined teams and programmes within charities, delivering transformation and dignity to those in hardship locally, nationally and abroad. 

In 1999 I had the good fortune and good sense to marry a fine lady of the silver city of Aberdeen. My wife’s parents retired to the Scottish Borders so subsequently just about every holiday we have taken has been spent somewhere in Scotland. Our home was in the south but our hearts were very much here in Scotland. In early January 2019, we decided it was time to pack up our home and fulfil a long-term dream to move to Scotland.

I am delighted to be entrusted with the role as Chief Executive for MAS and very much look forward to working with the team and the sector. I am keen to support the organisation to build on the many successes there have been as we develop a creative response to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, while focusing on bringing recovery and resilience to the individuals MAS supports on a daily basis.
