We recently had the privilege of hosting the launch event for our Dignity First campaign, an initiative aimed at challenging stigma surrounding money and debt issues.

The event brought together individual, primarily from the money and debt advice sector, to ignite important conversations and drive positive change.

Presenting the Dignity First Campaign

Heather O’Rourke (our adviser wellbeing officer) and I had the opportunity to present the Dignity First campaign, outlining our mission to challenge stigma and foster empathy in discussions about money and debt. We emphasised the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of their financial circumstances. Our goal is to create a more supportive and inclusive environment where individuals feel empowered to seek help without fear of judgment or shame.

Guest Speaker: Wendy Halliday, See Me Scotland

We were honoured to have Wendy Halliday, Director at See Me Scotland, join us as a guest speaker. Wendy shared insights into the success of changing discourse in mental health to a more compassionate and understanding one. She highlighted the importance of language in shaping perceptions and emphasised the power of empathy in supporting individuals with mental health challenges. Wendy's presentation inspired us to take influence from the progress made in mental health advocacy and apply similar principles to our work in challenging stigma around money and debt.

Discussion Panel: Engaging attendees in conversation

Following the presentations, we hosted a discussion panel where attendees had the opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences. The panel provided a platform for open dialogue, allowing participants to discuss the issues surrounding financial stigma and potential solutions to these issues. It was heartening to see individuals from different backgrounds coming together to exchange ideas and insights.

Moving forward together

As we reflect on the success of the Dignity First campaign launch event, we are filled with a sense of hope and optimism for the future. The event served as a catalyst for change, sparking meaningful conversations and laying the groundwork for future initiatives. We are committed to continuing our efforts to challenge stigma, foster empathy, and create a more inclusive society for all.

Thank you to everyone who attended the event and contributed to its success. Together, we can make a difference and build a brighter future for generations to come.

Stay tuned for updates on the Dignity First campaign and opportunities to get involved. Together, we can make a difference and create a more supportive and compassionate society.
