How the £400 Energy Support Scheme payment will be made Today (29 July 2022), the UK Government has announced new details on how the £400 payment to all households in the UK (as part of the Energy Support Scheme) will be paid. How the £400 is broken down Month Discount applied to energy bill October 2022 £66 November 2022 £66 December 2022 £67 January 2023 £67 February 2023 £67 March 2023 £67 How the discount will be applied While the amount of discount that households receive is the same regardless of how you pay for your energy, the way you receive the discount will differ depending on your payment method. It’s important to note that if you pay by traditional prepayment meter, the discount is not applied automatically and there are additional steps you need to take to redeem the discount. Type of payment method How discount will be applied Direct debit customers A deduction to your bills will be made automatically. It doesn’t matter if you pay monthly or quarterly. Standard credit/payment card customers A deduction will be applied automatically by appearing as a credit (top up) to your account in the first week of the month (October 2022 – March 2023). Smart prepayment meter customers The discount will be credited automatically and directly to your smart prepayment meter in the first week of the month (October 2022 – March 2023). Traditional prepayment meter customers The discount is not automatic. You will be provided with redeemable vouchers in the first week of the month (October 2022 – March 2023) by post, email, or text message. You will need to redeem these in person at your usual top up point (e.g. Post Office). You will need to make sure that your energy supplier has up to date contact details for you to make sure that the vouchers get to you.
