Conference 2008

This year's conference takes place on Thursday 22nd & Friday 23rd May at Crieff Hydro Hotel, Perthshire.

Last year over 240 delegates from the money advice, banking, credit, debt collection and insolvency sectors attended the 2007 Conference, and we hope this year will be even more successful.

Events

Tax Credits – the Essentials Training
Child Poverty Action Group in Scotland is running half-day ‘Tax credits – the essentials’ courses for workers who do not specialise in welfare rights. The course aims to equip frontline workers to help clients get the most out of tax credits and avoid some of the common pitfalls.

Dates and venues are flexible. The cost is £150 for up to 20 participants.

A Fairer Local Tax for Scotland
The Scottish Government's consultation, 'A Fairer Local Tax for Scotland', contains proposals to abolish council tax and replace it with a local tax based on ability to pay. The document is available on their website: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Consultations/Current

The closing date for response to the consultation is Friday 18th July 2008. People are encouraged to respond online and visit the new section on their website http://www.scotland.gov.uk/afairertax for more information.

Vacancies

Client Relationship Manager
Campbell Dallas Chartered Accountants
The role will be to provide specialist support and assistance to the money advice community, in relation to personal insolvency and the Debt Arrangement Scheme. The post holder will also be expected to maintain existing referral sources and develop new ones. Applicants will have substantial knowledge in money advice and be experienced in interviewing debtors.

Sector Support Officer
Candidate will work with MAT’s Head of Research & Policy to maintain and enhance an online information hub, be responsible for the day-to-day management of a MAT-led Common Financial Statement project under the direction of MAT’s Head of Research & Policy and be responsible for the day-to-day administration of a MAT-led creditor contact database.
