About Us
Money Advice Scotland (MAS), the national organisation, was set up in 1989 with support from the Scottish Consumer Council in recognition of the rising levels of debt in Scotland, and indeed the need for support (through training, conference & seminars) for those who were offering money (debt) advice. It has approximately 130 members from a variety of agencies providing or in support of a free, independent, impartial, confidential money advice service.
Money Advice Scotland represents the views of its members on policy issues, and liaises with national, statutory and voluntary agencies on the promotion and development of money advice services.
As an organisation Money Advice Scotland is committed to promoting and providing training, which is linked to national standards. There is an increasing demand from, and recognised benefits for, the membership, with regard to quality training and information, and for the establishment of National Standards giving access to Scottish Vocational Qualifications. MAS is an Approved Centre for the delivery of Advice Qualifications, and was the first centre in the UK to have a Candidate awarded level 4 Qualification in Advice (Money Advice Evidence Route).
